What the Developers say

World War Z is a thrilling four-player cooperative third-person shooter featuring massive swarms of zombies that recklessly rush their living prey. Focused on fast-paced gameplay — and based on the incredibly popular Paramount Pictures property of the same name — World War Z explores new storylines and characters from around the world in tense, overwhelming, gruesomely exciting missions crafted specifically for modern consoles and PC.

The swarm feels neither fear nor mercy. It rolls forward to spread and consume. Together, make your stand and unload an arsenal of deadly weaponry into these hundreds of swarming zombies. Feel the satisfying rush of life as you cheat death and prevail against such overwhelming odds. Cut the undead down with rocket launchers, machine guns, sentries, turrets, grenade launchers, barbed wire, and more.

What a buzz, getting to review the exciting and fast-paced zombie action game ‘World War Z’ on the Xbox. Being a big fan of zombie games, movies and tv shows made this a pleasure to sit down and test out.

Audio and Visual

The voice acting is excellent throughout the game, and the sounds effects of the horde getting close is thrilling which adds to the sense of approaching danger. Visually, World War Z delivers. The detail in the scenes is accurate for the different locations you find yourself fighting the zombies in.

The Zombie’s movements are rapid and frantic like they want to get to you in a hurry and up close they are very detailed and terrifyingly realistic. The soundtrack is pretty generic in that a ramped up background track plays when a horde is attacking, but that’s about it.

Gameplay and Replayability

Zombies, zombies and more zombies! Left, right, centre as well as above and below! Coming at you from every angle!!

This game is straight forward to pick up and play, jumping into zombie killing action is easy, and it was quick to team up with other online players to battle through co-op story missions.

I liked that the game set out to travel the world and show the battle against the zombies as they did in the movie. Different locations with an assortment of characters were well thought out and an enjoyable way to move along to various events and scenes of battles against the zombies.

The gameplay is very smooth with an arcade feel to it. Learning the controls was straight forward and quick to do…the tutorial was seamlessly included early on.

You have helpful hints throughout the gameplay, as you settle into facing each stage of the missions you begin to notice a bit of a pattern, checkpoint, set up defences, and then face a horde of zombies.

Adrenaline rarely raised to any heights, but this was probably because of the difficulty setting and the ease at which ammo and health supplies were on offer. Cranking up the difficulty means restricted ease at which these items are available to you and the longer it will take to down the zombies that are charging towards you!

Before the battle you have a good range of different character classes to choose from, on completion of each short story from around the world you are given reward points for upgrading your weapons. The stats pack at the end of each mission is an enjoyable read.

Overall this game is a fun and quick pick up and play shooter. Zombie fans won’t be disappointed, and any fans of the two ‘left for dead’ games will feel at home.
