Introduction

I was so excited to hear the great news that this fantastic selection of games was getting a release on the Switch. This selection of games gave me a doorway into the fantastical world of gaming as a child. With titles such as Streets Of Rage and Phantasy Star and Sonic it was an all-star lineup of nostalgia; so how did I find it on the Switch? Read on to find out more.

Looks and Sounds

Visually this game reminds me of how I used to play the games as a child. You are visually in a position in a bedroom overlooking a tv screen, and a bookcase full of games, adorning the walls of the room are some great looking posters of Sonic and Altered Beast. The games themselves play flawlessly and sound just as they used to.

I encountered no issues while playing the myriad of titles available with no screen tearing or jittering.

Gameplay and Replayability

Covering a host of games and a lot of different genres and titles in this fantastic selection of games it was well worth the play through. If you haven’t had the chance to play some of these titles before both on the original console and the original console ports, then I would say that it’s worth a punt.

With the option to play with one Joy-Con or two granting instant multiplayer for games such as Golden Axe and Streets of Rage, there’s a great option to Save the game on the fly and reload it where necessary this is great for a handheld console and a much welcome port.

Replayability is relative with many of these titles being a couple of decades old and still enjoyable when playing alone or with family members/friends.

Conclusion

Overall I have enjoyed the Switch port of this title with a host of different titles to sink your teeth into. It doesn’t do anything though that the previous version hasn’t covered, but it’s a great addition nevertheless. You can jump on and off at your leisure thanks to the on the fly save feature that is available. At £29.99 though there’s plenty of other fantastic titles out there for the same money.
