Introduction

Being comfortable while gaming is the something that heavily impacts how long I can game for. Shifting your weight to adjust your position can be frustrating, so comfort is key. One awkward move during a pivotal moment can lead to endgame. Getting up after many hours, especially if you’re an older gamer, can make you regret the longer sessions.

Mustard was my second choice of colour.

Up to now, I’ve been using quite a large leather bean bag as my gaming chair. It’s been a great companion for a few years, seeing me through lockdown and beyond, and has lasted really well. However, when an opportunity came up to try out the Velvet Hi-Back Gamer Bean Bag, of course I said yes.

The Aesthetic

Unsurprisingly, the giant black leather bean bag didn’t have the wife’s stamp of approval when I bought it. As such, I was really happy when GreatBeanBags.com offered me a choice of different colours to choose from for their bean bags. Black is usually my default colour – it’s safe! However, seeing the Midnight Blue that matched my living room wall colour, I knew this was my best bet. If you’re unsure on colour, they have an incredible fabric samples section here. The ten samples are free of charge – can’t argue with that service.

The Designer Velvet Hi-Back Gamer Bean Bag comes ready to use straight out of its giant box, so make sure it’s not a surprise. This is great, as nobody wants the hassle of filling a beanbag themselves – it’s such a messy process.

I was really surprised when getting the beanbag out of its box, as it seemed much bigger in the pictures. The box also gave it a “large” look. However, it’s compact, feels really smooth and is comfortable with the velvet finish.

Immediately I was impressed with the colour of the beanbag. It matched really well to my living room walls and was compact enough to store to the side, without it becoming an eye-sore like the giant leather one I had.

The Sit Factor

Taking my first sit in the Designer Velvet Hi-Back Gamer Bean Bag gave me some thoughts. There’s definitely multiple ways of sitting, depending on your comfort needs. You can sit straight down, lean against it, or sit into it. The latter gives you more back support but a deeper dip into the base. Anyone with back problems may therefore need to adjust for their position to suit their specific needs.

It’s not uncomfortable though, but watching my kids and wife take turns sitting, everyone has a different style. So find your comfort point and let it support you.

Usually, that would be the end of the review, but we recently got a puppy. So I thought I’d give it a little longer to see how it copes with an energetic cockerpoo.

Simple to say, he loves it and when I’m not sat in it, he dives onto it. It just swallows him whole. It’s also survived a few moments of teeth and claws, which I’m impressed with.

Conclusion

The Designer Velvet Hi-Back Gamer Bean Bag is made of really high-grade fabric and the build quality is superb. The beanbag has been chucked about by my kids, has been used for hours of gaming and acts as a bonus comfort bed for the dog, and it still looks great. My kids often prefer to sit on the bean bag rather than the sofa. I don’t have any concerns or negative things to say about the product, to be honest.

Suitable for multiple usage scenarios, not just gaming.

The price of this beanbag is a bit spicy at £189, but it is currently on offer for £113, which feels a lot more reasonable. The site does however have a huge range of bean bags available. So if this isn’t the right one for you, I’m sure they have something on their website to suit.

Finally, if you’re not happy, they have a reasonable return and refund policy should it not suit your needs.

Woah this looks awesome and a good way for us older gamers to get back to our roots of gaming on the floor without the backache 😅 The midnight blue you chose is lovely, I’d probably go with the lime green even the peach fuzz is nice for a cozy vibe.
