A Big Bag of Bricks and Tricks

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight swoops on to the Nintendo Switch 2, nearly four months after the PS5 & Xbox Series versions (see my previous review here: https://www.rapidreviewsuk.com/lego-batman-legacy-of-the-dark-knight/ ). While the Nintendo Switch 2 version was a bit delayed, it arrives in a great form, as one of the best looking LEGO games to date on a Nintendo platform, as well as one of the best looking Switch 2 games as well. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight (LB:LotDK) weaves the 87-year history of Batman comics, TV Shows, Movies, and more into a particularly satisfying sheen of LEGO and TT Games humor. For a game that spans the length it does it is surprising that game manages to tell a decent story while also giving players a free-roaming Gotham to find secrets and collectibles.

There’s more than enough Batman history to fill multiple games, let alone one succinct package such as LB:LotDK. Most of Batman’s rogue gallery of villains have a place somewhere along the encounters you will find in the game, though some have taken a bit more of a backseat in this one. I particularly liked the inclusion and ‘re-telling’ of Jack, Red Hood One, and the Joker while weaving in Batman Begins‘ Ra’s Al Gul and The Batman’s Penguin while paying homage to a variety of portrayals of iconic heroes, villains, and side characters.

LB:LotDK was already a phenomenal game when it was released back in May 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series of consoles. The game has ported over to the Nintendo Switch 2 with most of the charm still in tact. The game and it’s story hasn’t changed at all and the visuals remain fairly solid and consistent on the Nintendo Switch 2. In my playthrough of the main campaign and the newly released Mayhem Mode I only noticed occasional frame stuttering and slowdown.

The visuals issues in LB:LotDK on the Nintendo Switch 2, are common among games ported to Nintendo’s hybrid console. I noticed some longer loading in the Switch 2 port as well as texture pop-in, but once you were loaded into a level or one of the sections of Gotham City, the framing seemed to stop in most cases.

It’s Good to Be Bad

Mayhem Mode is finally here in LB:LotDK for the Nintendo Switch 2 as well as for the other consoles. Deluxe owners of the game can enjoy the expansion included in their original purchases, while base game purchasers can upgrade to the Mayhem Mode DLC and various new costume packs. The new Mayhem Mode as a timed arena where Joker and Harley can go around Gotham leaving a path of destruction and deviance while robbing ATMs, destroying landmarks, and creating other havoc. While your race the clock, you can unlock upgrades that will help you extend your runs, as well as encounter Amanda Waller’s A.R.G.U.S. Agents Rick Flag and Task Force X.

Mayhem Mode also lets you unlock items to outfit a Joker hideout of sorts which acts as the hub world for Mayhem Mode and the rogue like missions. Similarly, you can jump into the main campaign as Batman, Catwoman, Jim Gordon, and other Batman heroes to customize your Batcave with unlockable gadgets and furniture you buy from Bat-Mite.

Bat-Gadgets and Gizmos

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight’s main story campaign sprawls across multiple island sections of Gotham, as well as Wayne Manor and the Batcave. Many of the mission locations will take you through iconic landmarks in the Gotham universe and weave characters through the story. Along the way you will learn new moves that harken back to the Arkham series of games. These moves include ziplining to perches above henchman which can be used to tie them up or swooping down to dropkick bad guys before they get the drop on you.

During combat, which sees you punching with Y, countering with X, and pulling off focus finisher moves with R, Batman and his hero partners will also use various gadgets. Batman’s trusty Bat-Claw can be used to pull on yellow hook pieces, Jim Gordon can use his bumble gum gun to stop gears from spinning and Catwomen can send her kittens to crawl through small tunnels. Instead of having a robust group of heroes, Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight leans more into the gadgets and gizmos found in the bat universe.

LEGO: Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight finds itself on the couch co-op Mount Rushmore for me. It is another Switch 2 game that I am delighted to play alongside a friend or one of my daughters. I only wish they would have included a friend pass like Orbitals or Split Fiction so I could share the game with friends that might not be able to play local couch co-op. Overall though the game is a solid recommendation for the Nintendo Switch 2 and for people that love Batman or LEGO…or both.
