PowerA GameCube Style Wired Controller

Reading Time: 2 minutes

PowerA is well known to gamers for making a great range of officially licensed games peripherals and accessories. I’ve had the chance to test out the Nintendo Switch GameCube Style Wired Controller. Read on for my thoughts on this controller.

Key features

  • The preferred gamepad for Super Smash Bros Ultimate
  • Classic GameCube design plus larger D-pad and added left shoulder button
  • System buttons added for compatibility across all Nintendo Switch Games*
  • Detachable 10ft (3m) USB Cable with Velcro strap
  • No batteries required
  • Official licensed product with two-year limited warranty – register at PowerA.com

Design and features

Fans of the GameCube will be familiar with the design of this controller straight away. PowerA has done an excellent job of faithfully recreating this peripheral. It feels solid in hand, and the buttons and joysticks feel responsive. The PowerA controller has the addition of the home button and the screenshot button, as on the Joy-Cons.

It doesn’t have a rumble feature and you are limited to the length of the cable. However, the included detachable cable is 10ft long so you should be able to play comfortably in the location of your choice.

If you want to enjoy the freedom of a wireless controller, you can pay more for the wireless edition.

Conclusion

Fans of the original GameCube controller will want to snap this up, even if for the pure nostalgia. It’s not expensive, looks great, and most importantly, feels stable and precise when playing.
