Sounds Good to Me

For those that know me, I’m a bit of an Audiophile (given my music history) and have used more products over the years that I could count. We’re talking Shure, Sennheiser, AKG, Behringer, Beats, SteelSeries and many many more. Over the more recent years, I’ve found myself reviewing Edifier on several occasions. Here I am again, back with the W800BT Pro.

Out of the gate, these headphones deliver a wonderful sound quality for their price. They far exceed my expectations for a budget headset. This is probably in part due to the 40mm drivers that deliver a 20-40kHz response range. I’ve used them for all kinds of music recently and they deliver nicely every single time!

I do however have one complaint about the headset sound but it’s not for the user. When using these for phone calls, the headset microphone picks up EVERYTHING around you. Cars, People, Breathing, you name it. My wife often had a hard time hearing me amongst the noise. Edifier claims a mic with AI noise cancellation, but it did absolutely nothing for me. I wouldn’t recommend these for your conference calls!

Features Folks, Features!

For a budget headset, the W800BT Pro’s come with a fair few features to make them more appealing. The big draw for more was the ANC (Active Noise Cancelling). I recently took a trip to New Zealand and have done over 50 hours of flying in the last month, so was looking forward to seeing how well these would block the engine noise. LET ME TELL YOU, THEY SMASHED IT!

The ANC on these bad boys is brilliant. Not only is it not super pressurised on the ears, it blocks out the sound so well that I opted for these over my £400 Sennheiser Momentums to help me get some sleep. I cannot fault the ANC what-so-ever, this alone is worth the purchase.

Next up, we have the battery life and fast charging. The W800BT Pro has an impressive battery of up to 26 hours with ANC on, or 45 with it off. On top of that, they can deliver 8 hours of playtime with just 15 minutes of charging – perfect for someone who’s often on the go!

The last feature I’m going to mention (though not all it has to offer) is the connectivity to the Edifier ConneX app. This app allows you to customise the sound using a variety of EQ options, adjust the power settings and more. The reason I mention this however is that while I’ve used it before for other Edifier devices, I had nothing but issues with connecting these to the app. I suspect this was likely an issue with the app itself rather than the device, but I was a little disappointed that I couldn’t utilise these features while testing. Never-the-less, I know these features are good, but don’t personally feel that the W800BT Pro’s even need to be EQ tuned, they’re great out of the box!

Build Quality

I wouldn’t be doing the review justice if I didn’t take a moment to mention the build quality. The W800BT Pro is made of very lightweight materials, the main one being the plastic shell. While the device maybe feels a little fragile due to the material used, I can assure you that they hold up being thrown around while folded up in hand luggage on planes, and abused by children. Fear not for these are built to be strong and sturdy while being lightweight and comfy.

So What Do We Think?

Having taken these across the globe and back, my wife and I have agreed that these far exceed the expectations of a budget friendly headset. The sound is great, the features are great and the price is great! The only let-down being the microphone certainly isn’t a deal breaker for me, I just wouldn’t take calls on them personally. Aside from this, a fantastic headset and well worth the money.
