Introduction

I decided to give this fantastic title a chance as turn-based strategy games were an integral part of my upbringing: I spent countless hours by my fathers side watching him destroy hordes of monsters and enemies and it was great fun. Games such as Heroes of Might and Magic and Etherlords were some of my absolute favorites. So, how did this title hold up against my expectations? Read on to find out with my Rapid Review of Braveland Trilogy on Nintendo Switch.

Audio And Visuals

For me, I really loved the art style that Braveland portrayed. It wasn’t too serious with vibrant colours, great battlefield backdrops and some really nice music which made for some excellent pick up and play time. The music was relaxing with piano, guitars and flutes. All of the unlockable characters have different colours to the enemy mobs you face.

Gameplay And Replayability

So the game play for this trilogy is based around 3 Campaigns: a Warrior, a Mage and a Pirate. Each character has a different story-line all starting at different points in the game and each having a different way of recruiting mobs and units and gameplay style. The difficulty level can be adjusted in the game to make it either more simplistic or harder, however it becomes quite apparent early on that this is a clear mobile port. At times, there just doesn’t seem to be enough meat on the bone and it shows with killing waves and waves of enemy but never really feeling too much for any of your units that die.

As well as this, the story could have been written better, with some of the dialogue getting lost, basic sentences sometimes not making sense and it would make it a slighter better title if this was addressed. However, for a title you can just pick up and play on the fly, it is definitely worth a punt. It works out at around £5 for each of the chapters which I feel isn’t to great a cost, and there is several hours of game-play here. That being said, they are definitely not re-writing the SRPG genre and that should be taken into account when making a purchase.

In terms of replayability, unless you clear all of the chapters on easy and want to go back and try them all on Hard, I can’t see myself replaying through the whole of this game again.

Conclusion

My conclusion for this title is mainly addressed in the gameplay section however all in all for the cost of the title and the fact it’s a mobile port I feel its worth a play through there aren’t to many SRPG titles on the store and the moment and this game although a little basic could at least satisfy an itch for some turn based combat and at a fair price point. It’s great to see Indie developers supporting such a great console and I’m looking forwards to other potential titles to eventually reach this great portable little console.
