Sennheiser has always focused on making headphones that sound great and the MOMENTUM range has been popular with music fans for this reason. The Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless sticks to that approach, improving on the previous model in many small ways. It’s not a big upgrade, but it is a well-made, high-quality pair of wireless headphones that focuses on what matters most: great sound.

Design and Comfort

At first glance, the Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless doesn’t scream for attention. The understated styling feels sophisticated rather than flashy, with a clean, modern look that wouldn’t seem out of place in an office, on a train or relaxing at home. The build quality gives you confidence that your investment will last, combining sturdy materials with soft-touch finishes that feel every bit as premium as the price tag suggests.

Sennheiser clearly focused on comfort with this design. The ear cups are padded but not too big, and the headband spreads the weight nicely. Even after hours of listening, I didn’t feel the need to take them off, which is perfect for long flights or workdays.

Sound Quality

This is where the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless earns its stripes. With its high-fidelity 42mm dynamic driver, the Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless keeps the sound balanced, clear and natural. Each instrument has space to stand out, while vocals remain rich, expressive and easy to hear. Guitars, pianos and orchestral instruments also keep their character without being drowned out.

The bass is deep and powerful but remains controlled, giving the music plenty of punch without sounding muddy. Higher notes are crisp and detailed without becoming harsh, helping cymbals, strings and smaller details sound clear. The result is a pair of headphones that can make familiar albums feel fresh again.

Active Noise Cancellation

The active noise cancellation is excellent without trying to create complete silence. Instead, it removes the distractions that matter most. Low-frequency rumbles from trains, buses and aircraft are dramatically reduced, while office chatter fades comfortably into the background. It doesn’t quite reach the near-silent cocoon created by my Apple AirPods Max, but it comes remarkably close whilst maintaining a more natural listening experience.

Transparency mode is equally useful, allowing conversations and surrounding sounds through without removing the headphones. Switching between modes feels seamless, making everyday use genuinely convenient.

Immersive Audio with Dolby Atmos

A standout new feature is immersive audio support. With Dolby Atmos content, the headphones create a bigger, more three-dimensional soundstage that feels like it goes beyond the ear cups. Instead of just making the sound wider, instruments and effects seem to come from real places around you, adding depth to music, movies, and games.

The optional head-tracking feature makes the effect even more realistic by keeping the sound in place as you move your head, making music and movies feel more like listening to speakers. You won’t use it with every album or video, but when the mix is right, it really improves the experience without feeling fake. You can turn Dolby Atmos and head tracking on or off easily in the Smart Control Plus app, so you can choose between regular stereo and immersive sound whenever you want.

Battery Life

You don’t have to worry about battery life with the Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless. With up to 57 hours of playtime, they last for several days on a single charge, even with ANC turned on. Quick charging is a nice bonus, giving you hours of use after just a short charge. If you travel a lot, commute, or often forget to charge your devices, this long battery life is a big plus. Sennheiser has also given thought to the longevity of the MOMENTUM 5 wireless headphones thanks to being able to replace the battery without the need to send it into a service centre, this is a big win for anyone buying these headphones.

Smart Features

The companion app is easy to use. You can adjust the EQ, update the firmware, and set up controls in just a few minutes. The touch controls work well most of the time, though you might accidentally swipe when adjusting the fit, which happens with many touch headphones. Call quality is good too, with voices coming through clearly even in noisy places.

The Verdict

The Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless doesn’t try to reinvent premium wireless headphones. Instead, it refines an already excellent formula with outstanding audio performance, impressive battery life, effective noise cancellation and exceptional comfort. Some competitors offer marginally stronger ANC or a few more software tricks, but very few deliver music with the same level of refinement. That’s ultimately what makes these headphones stand out.

If you want to hear your favourite music at its best and still have all the features you expect from modern wireless headphones, the Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless should be high on your list.
