Revisiting and Renewed Spirit
I reviewed Kena: Bridge of Spirits on the Xbox in 2024, which at the time was already a delayed release from the PC and PS4/5 launch. Today I am writing to tell you that its 2026 Nintendo Switch 2 version lives up to the original and in many ways shines a bit brighter due to the convenience of portability.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits (Shorthand Kena:BoS from here on out) is an action-adventure platforming game more akin to the Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword style in terms of it being set in a world that has distinct paths and areas but allowing some ‘off the beaten path’ treasures to find, small narrative side quests, and collectibles in the form of outfits for Kena and the adorable Rot that accompany her on her quests.

Still looking and playing good
The map layout, with its sectioned off corridors never bothered me, in fact I believe it helped to focus the game’s story and lush, lived world in a way that open world games tend to lose focus in. Back in my review I said “Kena’s journey is a heartfelt adventure that resonates with themes of healing and redemption.” That is still true in the Nintendo Switch 2 version which retains all of the previous map areas, story beats, and cinematics.
While Kena: BoS kept true to its focus, some gamers may find that slightly annoying or lacking in terms of gameplay and upgrades. Kena does learn new moves and abilities along the 10 hour journey, but the minimum amount of paths to choose from could be off putting to some.

A Beautiful Journey
What is here in Kena: BoS is a straight-forward narrative adventure that brings heart and life to the few character NPCs. The aforementioned adorable and from time-to-time helpful, Rot, are there for comedic relief during stressful fights and puzzle-solving. Kena: BoS has a decent variety of enemies, bosses, and really shines with its jaw-dropping and vertical vistas.
One main stand out in Kena: Bridge of Spirits on the Nintendo Switch 2 is just how faithful it is to visuals and performance. While hair and some textures do seem to be slightly downgraded, the overall look of Kena, her environment, the enemies, and the flashes of storms and more all seem to translate well, making me glad to see this game on the Switch 2.

Gameplay That ‘Rot’tates Between Simple and Challenging
There were moments where I had noticeable frame stuttering, especially during some of the fights that included multiple enemies or larger bosses on screen. The hitching I saw wasn’t enough to make me quit the game but it is something to consider if you still haven’t purchased Kena: BoS and would like to play the game.
Like I said in my Xbox review, Kena: Bridge of Spirits is “A delightful 10-hour journey.” And this time you can take it with you.

“Kena: Bridge of Spirits”, now on Nintendo Switch 2 is a visually stunning and enjoyable action-adventure game that plays just as great on the Switch 2 as it did in my previous review on Xbox. Kena: BoS is a charming and delightful 10-hour journey through a world full of fantastic creatures, enemies, and heroism. While the narrative and gameplay simplicity may put some people off, there is a good amount of captivating combat and a charming atmosphere to be played through. While it may not reach the polish of first-party exclusives, it stands out as a great first (or in this case) third effort from Ember Lab, earning a silver 4.5 out of 5 from Rapid Reviews UK.
Now available on the Nintendo Switch 2 console, this spirited adventure invites players to explore its enchanting landscapes, battle formidable foes, and enjoy the company of the lovable Rot. Whether you’re a first-timer on Nintendo Switch 2 or revisiting from PC, Xbox, or PlayStation, “Kena: Bridge of Spirits” offers an experience that’s worth your money, your time, and your spirit.
