Switch 2 Storage

The Transnovo carrying case bundle for Nintendo Switch 2 is one of the few case bundles I’ve ever had that I want to love, but just can’t. The package includes many Switch 2 accessories, many of which are great in concept, but just aren’t.

Receiving the package, things looked promising. The box was sturdy and the case inside was packaged well to protect it. I opened it up and thought “man, this is a really nice case”. For the most part, I was right. The case itself is well built. Lots of storage for all your games, accessories and of course, the console. The fabric inside is soft and the construction is sturdy. I had one gripe with it though – the Velcro to told the switch in place.

The Velcro is a great idea, but the design is wrong. The scratchy side (the hooks) is face down on top of where the Switch screen goes, meaning it could leave marks and scratches on the screen when placing or removing the device. The soft section (the loops) is on the folding down flap that covers the screen. It makes no sense. This could be such a simple fix – one that I would hope Transnovo will make.

On the whole, I actually quite like the case. I’ll be using it and keen to see how it holds up over time throughout my travels.

The Awful Accessories

I’ll be blunt about this – all the accessories sucked. Some of them were fantastic in principle, but lacked on implementation. Let’s start with the hand grips for the Joy-Cons.

I loved how the silicone grips were designed. They didn’t stand out too much and included a lovely ergonomic design for long sessions. Unfortnately, they just don’t stay on. They slip off at the slightest touch and just become irritating. Furthermore, you have to take them off just to put the Joy-Cons into the Switch 2’s controller accessory since the ergo design doesn’t fit.

Next let’s talk about the thumb grips. Now I’ve never been one to use them personally, but I really liked the idea of them, especially the low-profile ones since they had the nice grips on the top. Once again, these had flaws to them. The design of the 2 smaller style grips actually blocked some of the joystick movement range as they came into contact with the console housing before the joystick limit has been met. The large grips not only look REDICULOUS, but also pop off as soon as you get the joystick to full-tilt. This is a physics based design flaw (not something you see very often so props to Transnovo I guess?).

So let’s touch on the screen protector. Standard run-of-the-mill tempered glass protector. Now I’ve been applying protectors for years to things (I was that guy in a tech shop who probably did it for your mum when she bought her new iPhone), so needless to say I can do them flawlessly. Once again, great idea – it comes with a guide you pop onto the Switch 2 to guide you. Unfortunately there are no instructions on how to fit it, just some wipes and some dust stickers. This would be very frustrating if you didn’t know what to do. In addition, my screen protector had some production flaws on the sticky side so was never going to look clean and crisp. So I removed it immediately.

The other couple of bits were simply ridiculous. Dust covers for your ports? Nobody wants to have to take those out every time they want to charge the device, and the cables are always going to be connected to the dock anyway. Plus they were badly made so didn’t separate properly. And who makes a stand for the Switch? IT HAS A STAND, THAT’S THE POINT! The packaging claims it’s so you can charge and play, but the Switch 2 has a USB-C on the top and the bottom, so this is a non-issue now. Would have been better for the original Switch.

Switched Off

I had high hopes for this one, but unfortunately it was a massive let-down. I’ll be keeping the case, but the rest of it either didn’t work, wasn’t made well or was completely useless. If I were to recommend you purchase a case, it certainly wouldn’t be this bundle. The case as a stand-alone might be an option if you were hard-pushed, but that’s your call.
